Winter Wonderland, Megeve France

©2012 Palm Trail Press All Rights Reserved

I thought I would add some wintry images in celebration of the Holiday Season. You can find them in my Etsy shop as well. These photos were taken in the Alps. Mostly near the village of Megeve which is a charming, picturesque ski resort in the French Alps. I was living in Geneva, Switzerland at the time and it was very easy to pop over to Megeve. Maybe 45 minutes away. The resort isn't very high so sometimes the snow isn't the best for skiing at Christmas time. The higher resorts are more reliable then. You can't beat the food and wine though. Everytime I would go there I brought home the most delicious local honey sold in a large tub. I have never tasted anything like it either before or since. If you like cheese, its a great place for that. If you go there try the local varieties like Reblochon or Tomme de Savoie. They won't disappoint! I will add more images of Megeve in the future. Click the blue Megeve link above to read more about this lovely place.

P.S. It would make a great spot for a destination wedding.

Portuguese Man O War Jellyfish

©2012 Palm Trail Press All Rights Reserved

Early one morning as the sun was rising I took a walk along the beach here in Florida. To my amazement I found lots and lots of these baby Portuguese Man o' War Jellyfish spread out along the shoreline. They are quite beautiful with the most unusual shape that you can see above. But don't be fooled, these little babies deliver a whallopping sting with their venom. Their tentacles lie under the surface of the water and can be surprisingly long. So watch out when swimming in warm tropical waters.

Summer Postcards

©2012 Palm Trail Press All Rights Reserved

Summertime is here and it sure is hot. Time for a lazy break at the seaside. What could be more delightful then to sit at the beach or lounge at the pool sipping lemonade, ice tea, cold beer or a nice chilled glass of white wine. Yum. While relaxing its a great time to catch up with friends and write those inviting postcards.

Colorful Window on the French Riviera

©2012Palm Trail Press. All Rights Reserved.

This image was taken in the beautiful town of St. Paul de Vence on the French Riviera. The village is located on a hill with a view of the sea and the surrounding countryside. Famous for it's art galleries, art museums, artist studios and Fondation Maeght which is located nearby. St. Paul has always had a romantic appeal for artists and actors alike. The American writer James Baldwin died here in 1987.

Goodnight Moon

Every time I look at this image it reminds me of the book Goodnight Moon, by Margaret Wise Brown. One of my daughters adored this book and I can't imagine how many times I must have read it to her.

This image was taken at a party on the east end of Long Island, NY, known famously as The Hamptons. It was a party for a friend and she asked me to bring along my camera. The sunflowers that you see above had arrived in these wonderful organic pretzel boxes. They were to be the colorful center pieces for each table. I just loved the natural beauty of the flowers against the weathered bench and the early summer green lawn.

Provence

©2012Palm Trail Press. All Rights Reserved.

This photograph was taken in the charming hilltop town of Menerbes in the South of France in a region called the Luberon. It is the region made famous by author Peter Mayle in his books. They made a charming film called A Good Year with Russell Crow from one of his books. This particular village has been restored beautifully and besides the French you find Americans and British people living here. The colors at sunset are especially beautiful. Within sight of Ménerbes are the ruins of the Chateau de Lacoste, country residence of the notorious Marquis de Sade.

Beach Abstracts

The beach has such an allure for most people. I've heard it said that the reason for this is our ancient genetic coding. The remembrance of where we evolved from. I'm sure that's probably true. I find that gazing upon the horizon is one of the most soothing and comforting experiences there is. Generally, there is nothing there to obstruct the magnificent, wide, expansive view. Except perhaps occasionally a boat or two. This coupled with fresh, oxygenated air and carefree attire normally makes for a very relaxing experience. I'm a beach lover and find renewal there any time of day, month, year and anywhere in the world.

Beach abstract #18, the image on top, was taken on Long Island in Lattingtown during the winter. The white streaks of color are actually snow that had recently fallen. The blue abstract below it #12, was taken in West Hampton Beach, NY, midday on a beautiful, sunny, summer day. Beach Abstract #2 was shot in Maui, Hawaii at the end of the day with the most incredible orange, pink and blue. Beach Abstract #3 was photographed in St. Tropez in the South of France. I left the camera on a very long exposure at the end of the day and the results were these lovely, soft, pastel colors. The white part of the image is the surf breaking onto shore. If you'd like to see more please visit my etsy shop.
